Art, Science, and engagement

Through art, we capture nature's beauty, inspiring awe and responsibility for its preservation. Simultaneously, science provides insight into Earth's complexities and the need for stewardship. When art and science converge, they advocate for environmental action. By integrating creativity and inquiry, we inspire positive change toward a sustainable future for all life on Earth.

Imagine a podcast in which the host is interviewing the planet, and she responds through all the means of communication at her disposal.

Dialog with the Earth

Nature Stories, as a performance, is also an example of evolution. Through other related projects Kaeshi has been developing a practice of collaborating with artists, scientists, and provocative thinkers to present diverse thinking about our relationship to nature, our role in sustainability, and our responsibility to one another. In this iteration of an ongoing series, the question is asked, what would nature have to say for itself? While the Earth may not have the capacity to describe it’s needs in words, it clearly communicates it’s needs through countless stories of species survival and through manifestations of global climate change.

The origin

Nature Stories emerged from Kaeshi’s Creative Labs, a one week concentrated workshop that results in in a completed performance emphasizing the dialog between participating artists and scientists. The resulting performance is a co-created dialog between artists and scientists. An exploration of process, insights, and paths of inquiry - telling emotional, human-centric stories with scientific rigor and authenticity.

Working with museums

Kaeshi works with your educators, scientists, and public programs staff to co-create a performance in collaboration with local artist and performers. The resulting presentation is localized to the hosting organization and, to date, these performances have focused on stories of the natural world, featuring local performers and researchers. Kaeshi has conducted Creative Labs in Indonesia, Israel, Australia, and the United States in partnership with organizations such at the Exploratorium (San Francisco, CA) and the Monterey Bay Aquarium (Monterey, CA).

Nature Stories includes:

  • Localing content and engaging with local artist communities.

  • Tools to support the co-creation of art+science content

  • Evaluatable learning outcomes for participants.

  • Custom content be created for an institution that doesn’t break the budget.

  • Emotional engagment with scientific content.

  • Both adult and family friendly content.
